I’m transitioning into a different place right now. Changes are happening, life is moving on. It feels like I’m in a whole new world. So, my playlist this week is really.. I don’t know. Check out some of the songs. Maybe you can help me figure out my mood.
1. Mac Demarco- Chamber of Reflection
I looked up the lyrics to find the meaning in them, and I must admit since finding that it makes me feel closer to the song. The meanings resonate with me. Mac Demarco seems to be talking about a relationship where he feels his partner should go off and find someone better than him, then he’ll be alone again. I took a totally different meaning about his feelings of loneliness and needing a space of reflection. 3 minutes and 51 seconds off short lyrics and a repeated chorus, but somehow I find this grandiose meaning to it.
2. BANKS- Warm Water
There’s something about this song, something about this woman’s voice. I don’t know what it is, but this song really puts me in a trance and takes me back to some past feelings. I love it even though the past feelings associated with me hearing the song are a little painful.
3. Barenaked Ladies- When I Fall
I’ve always thought the name of this band was weird. The first time I heard this song was in 12th grade. My dance teacher made an arrangement for our dance class to perform with it. That’s my 2nd favorite dance that I learned during that year. Never really thought about the lyrics or anything until later down the road. I think this song is about taking risks. Wanting to jump or fly, all while wondering that if you fail who will catch you. I have a serious fondness for it.
4. James Blake- Cmyk
This song doesn’t have many lyrics, but it’s still really awesome. It took me a long time to appreciate music that is mainly just sounds. I never understood why people even listened to songs without lyrics. It’s different, but sometimes that’s exactly what I need; something to listen to without finding meaning in words. I especially like this song in particular because it samples Aaliyah.
5. ODESZA featuring Shy Girls- All We Need
Ending on a lighter note, this song is more upbeat than the others. It lifts my spirit! No idea what it’s about, haven’t even tried to figure it out. Ha! But! When I listen to it I feel determined. I feel happy, I feel young like I should. I feel like anything is possible. Not many songs can do that for me. I think it’s the beat of it that makes me feel this way.
That’s all I got this week. Dream on!
