I don’t know why, but I really enjoy listening to love songs. I like them all so it doesn’t matter if they’re about a new love, lost love, heartbreak, and so on. Basically anything that questions love, and talks about it on a real tip I will listen to. My mood this week was pretty angst-y making my playlist not so Valentine’s Day friendly. So, if you’re trying to get your V-Day sex playlist ready this will not help you. Sorry! If you need that hit me up on twitter, I’ll get you right. Ha!
Here’s 5 songs from my playlist:
1. Slum Village & Dwele- Tainted
I have a friend who says that sometimes my music sounds like it’s straight off a soundtrack from a 90’s romance comedy. I resent that, but he’s probably right. I like the message of this song, “When the situation is tainted, love is always free.” Slum Village will always be in my music library.
2. Joey Bad A$$- Right On Time
This isn’t your typical love song. Hell, you might not consider it a love song. I personally think this is an honest way for a guy who isn’t super romantic to tell you that he loves you. He’s like, “I like hitting it raw, but I love you, respect you, and want to protect you.” It’s really honest man. Not my relationship goals, but I respect the honesty.
3. Sade- No Ordinary Love
This song always gets me in my feelings about an unrequited love that I’m not even experiencing. That’s how deep it is to me. Of course, Sade is one of those artist that can tell a story that is timeless in her music. That definitely shows here.
4. Spooky Black- Without U
Apparently I’m super late on Spooky Black. I just found out about him a couple months ago. His name is definitely fitting given the eerie vibe his music gives off. This ones more so about unrequited love as well. So sorry if that kills your V-Day vibe. I warned you earlier!
5. AlunaGeorge- Bad Idea
I have no idea if this song is even about a romantic relationship. I’m sure it could be for any relationship really, but I always imagined that she’s singing about a really shitty ex-boyfriend. Yet still, the song is upbeat and really fun. If you are going through a break up it could help you not feel so funky about it.
That’s what was on my playlist this week. Maybe next year I’ll fulfill your cheesy, lovey-doevy Valentine’s Day needs with a more romantic playlist. Anywho, #DreamOn and enjoy your Valentine’s Day tomorrow!
