I’m a huge fan of women rapping. I’ll be honest, it’s definitely because I once wanted to pursue a rap career.. I’m kidding. The real reason is because there is such a small pool of women being recognized for being talented in the genre. So when I come across any music with a female voice rhyming I automatically give it chance.
Another truth moment, I initially procrastinated on listening to The Green Mile 1.5 because I thought it was just another rappers mixtape. When I played it and heard Cheech Forreign’s voice pumping through my speakers my spirits were instantly lifted. God knows I was not trying to review anymore mixtapes by male rappers, no offense fellas!
Cheech Forreign is a singer, songwriter, rapper, and as she has proclaimed an “expressionist”. Her mixtape The Green Mile 1.5 dropped on the fifth of this month, and it certainly has captured my attention. The tape follows a narrative format with each track flowing from one to another seamlessly. Cheech is delivering a vibe that’s very care-free and relaxed. After listening to the tape I’m interested to hear more from her in the future. Some people like to hear lady rappers constantly reinforcing the skills in what I like to call sex-play, but Cheech is chillin’ out with some good old fashioned word-play. Sorry folks, no over-saturation of catchy sexual innuendos here. Although some of us may enjoy that from time to time.. Take a listen.
If you’re feeling this, you might want to check out the preceding project as well, which is posted below.
