The 58th Grammy ceremony was set to be something special upon the announcement of Kendrick Lamar’s 11 nominations.
We knew he would perform. We knew he would win some of the awards. We didn’t know what he would do.
Every live performance that Kendrick has done has been an enticing moment to remember. All of his recent appearances have featured the performance of “Untitled” tracks that we’ve learned are cuts from TPAB that didn’t make the cut. And there are a lot of them. So when news of a “controversial” performance from LL Cool J came out in an interview, it was safe to assume another was coming.
Kendrick is an artist and his performance on Monday showed that yet again. He would break the chains of racial, mental, and physical bondage. He would set the stage on fire. He would spotlight the tragic deaths of young blacks at the hands of the cops (and others). I dare not spoil it, but if you’re a fan, you’ll enjoy the show.
