I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve been having a rough week! I’ve had a couple of weak moments where I felt inclined to drop everything, go home, and stay in bed for the rest of my days. I think we all end up there from time to time. If you’re a true Dreamr, you never really give up or allow obstacles to defeat you. We always find a way to pick back up and keep pushing. Sometimes, however, it takes more than self motivation to do the trick. On our worst days we might need a little inspiration from someone else!
I got a chance to do a quick Q & A with Lainney Dizon, Marketing Director of Dizon Dreams. If you are an aspiring Public Relations, Communications, Media Specialists, or anyone seeking to work in the media industry; this may be exactly the lift you need on your career journey! Take a look.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a passionate dreamer and goal slayer. I thrive off of doing what I love and inspiring others to live their passions. I co-founded Dizon Dreams in late 2014 to create an agency dedicated to doing this. We specialize in digital media and marketing in order to make a dream a reality.
What made you decide to start your agency, Dizon Dreams?
Dizon Dreams came out of a need. Living in Hollywood, you’re constantly surrounded by people who dreamed big, and more often than not, talked more than they executed. I wanted to create a boutique PR & marketing agency that focused on building strong relationships and executing strong game plans. I come from a background where I did a little bit of everything: street team for record labels, writing for magazines, marketing for PR companies, event coordinating for film premieres. I dabbled in a lot and I wanted to translate that energy into creating something that was my own. I wanted to get paid to be me and work with artists and brands I wanted to see grow.
What is your role in the company?
I serve as the Marketing Director, but as an entrepreneur I’m prepared to do everything. I write contracts, host dance parties, pitch to clients, create social strategy campaigns, and clean the office. There’s nothing too big or too small for me to do. At the end of the day, my goal is to make my clients happy and help bring them one step closer to their goals.
What are the goals and mission of the agency?
The goal of Dizon Dreams is to work with the best in the music industry and make an impact in the community positively. Our mission is that “every creative dream requires a dynamic team”, we’re very big on teamwork. I’m always connecting and building with others. You can’t create a legacy by yourself, everything is community and this is what we do at Dizon Dreams.
What or who inspires the work that you do?
A lot of things inspire me and the work I do. I’m inspired by the feeling that I know I learned something today. I’m inspired by the struggle artist who doesn’t give up. I’m inspired that I know this is only the beginning and the fact that there’s no limit to how creativity can be translated: music, dance, film, art. Inspiration is everywhere. Hip-hop is something that will always inspire the work I do. We’re always playing hip-hop in the office. [Laughs]
What do you see for your agency in the future?
I see us changing the landscape of music and entertainment with our creativity and community. I see Dizon Dreams working with the best artists in the industry. I see myself travelling the world doing what I love globally and sharing my light with as many people as I can. I see myself being featured in Forbes Top 30 Under 30. I’m excited for what’s to come.
What is some advice you would give to women out there that aspire to be in your position or working in your position or working in your field?
My advice would be to hustle + strategize. Hustling is not enough, you need to strategize and find WHERE you need to be to connect with the people you want to work with. Everything I have I worked for it and I don’t expect things to come easy because what I want very few people have, so I know I need to do what others don’t do. Don’t be afraid of hard work and surround yourself with people who believe they can create history too. Believing in yourself and letting go of any self-doubt and fear will save you lots of time.
Any upcoming projects or releases that you want to let people know about?
Yes, there’s so many exciting things coming down the pipeline. April 23rd our client HBK CJ will be performing at one of Los Angeles biggest festival’s Broke LA. Also, our client The Pharcyde will be at Further Future, it’s a great event that empowers the community with inspiring speakers + dope music. Also, I’m working with the LA Pulse Magazine team to launch a platform for upcoming artists in LA. You can follow them @LAPulseMag to stay tuned for what’s next. For more exciting projects and releases you can keep up with us @DizonDreams (we’re team followback).
Any final words that you would like to leave to our readers?
It’s not enough to dream, you need to have the courage to believe you can make it real. Once you listen to your gut, you’ll realize anything is possible when you put action behind dreams.
